Outside Roundup: Herrick wins pro-am in Greatwhite Surf Series stop

Santa Cruz’s Jimmy Herrick scored a win and $500 in the pro-am division of the Volcom Totally Crustaceous Tour’s Greatwhite Surf Series finale, which abandoned Pleasure Point’s small waves for 26th Avenue’s 4- to 6-foot swell Saturday.

Herrick also earned 1,000 points in the second Santa Cruz regional toward qualifying for the tour’s VQS World Championship. That event offers a $50,000 purse and is schedule for May 13-15 in Newport Beach.

Marco Foreman and Santa Cruz’s Brad Fox were second and third, respectively, in the pro-am division.

Jenn Balester won the girls competition, with Bo Stanley in second and Harbor High’s Carly Wilson in third.
